'De kleine Marx' van Geert Reuten is een handige samenvatting van het standaardwerk 'Das Kapital' van Karl Marx, waarvoor de laatste jaren hernieuwde interesse is ontstaan. De principes van het (neo)kapitalisme staan om allerlei redenen ter discussie. In dat licht is het interessant om je te verdiepen in de zeer fundamentele kritiek die Karl Marx al in 1867 uitte. Onder anderen Thomas Piketty en Joris Luyendijk hebben daarom zijn denkwerk opnieuw onder de aandacht gebracht. Tijd dus voor een hernieuwde kennismaking met het werk van deze econoom, dat ten onrechte rechtstreeks met het communisme in verband werd gebracht. Zijn magnum opus Das Kapital is een economische analyse van het kapitalisme. In de 2200 pagina's van dit driedelige werk valt het woord 'communisme' slechts driemaal. Geert Reuten is de Nederlandse Marx-expert. In 'De kleine Marx' vat hij de analyse van Marx samen, met focus op de relevantie voor het hedendaagse kapitalisme.
