Toen iedereen vlak na de Russische invasie wegtrok uit Kiev, ging hij erheen. Als producer voor de European Broadcasting Union (EBU) zou hij instaan voor de logistieke taken in Oekraïne. Dat was het plan, Bruno Beeckman, als man achter de schermen van de oorlogsverslaggeving. Maar toen hij eind februari de eerste keer aankwam in Kiev, waren bijna alle journalisten er al weg. Hij deed het dus zelf maar en ging met zijn bedaarde en bedachtzame stem de verhalen vertellen van het front.Bruno Beeckman trekt al bijna dertig jaar naar het front, waar dat ook mag zijn: van Afghanistan en Irak, over Tsjetsjenië en Mali, tot Syrië en Libië.
